Stockholm to Bergen: Thursday 19th March 2009

An early start to catch the 6.05am fast train, the “Arlanda Express” to Stockholm airport. The train travelled at more than 170km. You can get your money back if it is more than 2 minutes late from the scheduled 20 minutes trip.

Fights (via Oslo ) uneventful. The country side was covered with snow, frozen lakes were evident and obvious mountains between Oslo and Bergen.

Bergen is a university town, with ca. 17,000 students, so lots of relatively young people about. It does have a feel that one can relate to Queenstown (NZ) – the location, the hills, etc. We have had a walk about what is a very old town.

Sighted a couple of serious tugs ( I think oil related) that would have no trouble with Cook Strait. A bit of research shows they are designed supply duties between land base and drilling sites, towing, assist during tanker loading, and are used in oil spill recovery operations. The town is quite prosperous due to fishing and North Sea oil

The boat is HUGE, at 80m long

What was nice was the number of crocuses coming through all around town

Im really tired today – very busy at work but still its stimulating work and Im not complaining. kevs father leaves for Australia tomorrow. Diane and her family have immigrated there and Albert is on a permanent visitors visa. Has to come back here every three months. Hes 84 and very excitable. We have to settle him down sometimes as hes inclinded to prattle on. Take care and well catch up on 2oth and 21st soon.
